Wednesday "Chou Time" at Lucky Yu!

There's Elaine, Louis, KK, Coleman, Joe & Tony all getting primed for a feast at Lucky Yu! Was a bit disappointing today as it took quite a while for the food to arrive! We were all famished! Just imagine..after such hard wrok at badminton! Elaine nearly fainted from hunger! Tony nearly had to give her mouth to mouth resuscitation! (Ha ha just joking!)

Rainy Days & Mondays at Nunawading!

Look at those happy smiling feces. oops ! sorry I meant faces! It's Allan of course showing off his muscles and Geoff waving to us! While Vincent sits admiring the players on court! That's our Monday scene!

And what a lovely pair, Geoff & Lesley! (of badminton mixed doubles players I mean!). Haven't seen Lesley for years! Good to see her again amongst the cream of our Monday players! Very strong mixed doubles player! Just ask Glenn! They used to thrash all challengers! Don't know about now though!

These three-some! Always arguing! From Doncaster to Nunawading! Luckily you don't see them at a game together! That's Tony, Lesley & William!

Saturday Afternoon Fever in Summer 2005!

Saturday afternoons always seem to create lots of attention! For some unknown reason we have strangers drop in to sus out what goes on! A stranger to our group (in blue, at the far end below), had a keen eye observing the players in action. Perhaps we might get a surprise invitation to compete with outsiders?
Anyway, Andrew's(in black, top left) one of our younger casual players who drop in occassionally! Lots of energy & packs powerful shots too! While Richard, Eng Lye , Min & Billy are engrossed in court action!

You can describe Allan as fat(sorry I meant fit), crafty, powerful, fanatical or even skillful when it comes to badminton! But you wouldn't describe him as courageous would you? How much courage did it take for him to take on the twinish pair of B. William & Uncle Albert, while he partnered young Su Ching? Don't know who won but it was quite a tough & spiteful game I hear!

It's a bit like David & Goliath but didn't David prevail?

Su Ching doesn't lack concentration or determination but against these two seasoned campaigners...even with Uncle Allan by her side...it's a tall ask! Wonder what the final scoreline was?

The usual grinding game with Vincent partnering Ben vs Gene & Michael! No one gives up ...no quarter given or taken...the law of the jungle..the fittest survives!

Ronnie & Lawrence take on Thomas & Mervyn! This Tony Ong ah! ! Always want to get his face in the picture! Not malu one lah!! Cheelaka! Kachau only lah! Just because he can't play with his sore arm so he go and disturb people! Don't worry lah! Next time I take all your pictures and put it here!

These guys still going! Thought they'd be finished by now!! Already 6pm lah! Got to go home man!

Summer of 2005! Badminton still goes on merrily!

The Wednesday ladies get together for an interesting tussle between May & Lumy vs & Eileen & Maggie! Must have been a really close tussle! Very evenly matched!

Our new face for the day! Young Claude, in the background prepares for battle while his dad Johnny gets his gear on! Claude looks diminutive but makes up for it in eagerness & improving skills! Will be hard to beat in a couple of years! Has an aura of confidence about him too! Watch out fellow Greenhearts!

Towel in face! Phew!! "What a tough game!" says Claude! In fact Claude is a bit camera shy so he's wrapped his face with his towel! He'll have to get used to the limelight as he moves up in the world junior badminton rankings! Johnny, his dad studies his opponents in preparation for another round of action!

Ah Fun partners Claude and they certainly pack a punch! Look at Claude, like a "Crouching Tiger" or perhaps "Hidden Dragon" ready to pounce!

Sumiyo, our Indonesian connection drops in to catch up with fellow Greenhearts! He was a great player in his hay days too...with his incisive shots & great stroke play! Still packs a punch! A gentleman who's friendly mingles well!

Johnny partners David & take on dour pair Joe Cool & Kevin! It was a really keen game with lots of long rallies & exciting stroke & net play! Should have video recorded the action! Would have been in good demand being a game of such excellent standard!

Time to reflect on past things... dream about all those wonderful times when we were little children! Yes , Mei recalls her childhood days when she sits near young Claude! Admiring how he's savoring his youth with exuberance!

Ah! When badminton players get together there's always lots of fun, chit chat, jokes, comedy, fellowship & of course....buying & selling! Everyone wants to get the best racket with the best strings so they can play really well & enjoy their game!

The old school of the Jeddi meet the modern warrior from HK! Tony & Johnny have great experiences to share!

Tony demonstrates how he used to be able to "smash" with such force that no opponent could withstand the force! Of course that was light years ago.. but of course he still shows glimpses of his power....off & on!

Johnny's had enough of Tony's stories so he turns elsewhere looking for keener ear! He's a real gem, Tony! Great player with such skillful shots.... one of the best backhands I have seen at Greenhearts and a cheerful & friendly personality to go with it! Not to mention, a great Elvis impersonator!

The great 4 elite players exchange pleasantries as they finish a tough game, with Johnny leading them off the court having won the duel!

Meanwhile, Tony Tang appears completely immersed in a conversation with Ah Fun! It's such a peacful & friendly atmosphere in the badminton stadium that one can get carried away with the bliss, away from all troubles & worries, laughing at the players' mistakes, while chatting about anything!

Nunawading is one of the few venues which has a gallery where you can sit & watch the games from a great vantage point! Here you see some of the players taking a rest while enjoying the goings on!

"Time to say goodbye...". Everone's gone or getting ready to go for a bite of lunch at Lucky Yu. "See you on Friday!"
